Integrated Skills Program
This program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to
facilitate the instruction of specific skills needed for the
student’s successful independence in the “Functional Five” domains:
Communication
• enhances the student’s ability to understand and respond appropriately
to social communication
• facilitates the student’s ability to express self
• focuses on the student’s use of functional communication to gain
information and interact with the environment
Cognitive Development
• foster the student’s ability to learn and think
• teach skills that will encourage the student’s ability to solve
problems and apply information to real problems and tasks
• modifies teaching strategies and curriculum to assist the student
to obtain functional academic skills and excel in skill acquisition
• set goals for cognitive development
Social Skills
• sets goals for the student to successfully interact with peers,
family members, familiar, and new people
• teach appropriate recreation and leisure skills
Daily Living
• foster independence in everyday skills: self care, dressing,
preparation, organization, problem solving, and personal management
• encourages the student to be independent and follow a sequence of
tasks
Adaptive Behavior
• identifies skills the student will need to be independent in the
designated setting
• demonstration of self-regulation and appropriate response to
positive behavior supports within the environment
• establish a portfolio to highlight the student’s specific areas of
strength
• identify skills and subskills for pre-vocational and vocational
success
This curriculum is suitable for students ages 6 and up and offers an
alternative to the graded curriculum as outlined in the Sunshine
State Standards. The curriculum may be further enhanced with
multi-sensory learning opportunities, low ratio
instruction/supervision, and individualized modifications and
accommodations.
